Mr. Shahriar Alam joined Awami League in 1991with a view to take part in active politics.
Mr. Alam’s political career came to fruition with him being elected as Member of Parliament in the 9^th national parliamentary elections in 2008 from Rajshahi – 6 (Charghat – Bagha) constituency winning on the highest margin ever (28,000 votes, or, 56% of the electorate) amongst the six constituencies of Rajshahi division. Mr. Alam is a true representative of the new generation of people getting involved in politics and parliament to build a strong and vibrant Bangladesh. Mr. Alam took part in the discussion panel in the parliament session on Budget and Poverty Reduction Plan. He presented notice of motion (general, 147/1) in the 7th session of current Parliament on “Nuclear Power Project” that was passed unanimously. He has earned appreciation from senior parliamentarians for his proactive role in constructive participation in various parliamentary roles over the last two years. Mr. Alam has maintained excellent relations with the foreign diplomatic core based in Bangladesh. Of note, Mr. Alam took the unusual step of introducing monthly scholarship programs with the remuneration earned as an Member of Parliament for Junior School students in Rajshahi district
