Wang Yi Meets with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamed Shahriar Alam of Bangladesh

On April 27, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamed Shahriar Alam of Bangladesh, who was in China to attend the 5th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Wang Yi expressed that China and Bangladesh enjoy traditional friendship, and the two sides should enhance the docking of development strategies and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, so as to promote the common development of the two countries. China supports Bangladesh’s industrialization process and stands ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation in production capacity, advance major projects in infrastructure, communication, energy, industrial parks and other areas and accelerate the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Mohamed Shahriar Alam expressed that Bangladesh cherishes the traditional friendship between Bangladesh and China, feels grateful for China’s long-term assistance in Bangladesh’s economic and social development, and appreciates China’s leading role in boosting regional cooperation in Asia. Bangladesh is willing to reinforce high-level exchanges and political consultations with China, expand cooperation in trade, investment, industrial parks and other fields, and jointly push forward the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, in an effort to promote the further development of bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Wang Yi introduced China’s principles and stance on the South China Sea issue. Mohamed Shahriar Alam expressed that China’s stance and practices regarding the South China Sea issue are in line with the international law, of which Bangladesh has a full understanding. Interference from countries outside the region is not conductive to the settlement of the issue.
